Privacy Policy for It’s Up to You
This policy describes how the developer of It’s Up to You, operating under the name Better Guess Studio, handles information when you use the app.
1. Overview
It’s Up to You is a restaurant decision app. You do not need to create an account to use the app. We do not ask for your name, mailing address, phone number, or payment information inside the app.
The app does use certain information to provide restaurant searches, remember your preferences, prevent abuse, diagnose problems, and support advertising. The sections below explain those uses.
2. Location information
Near Me
If you choose the Near Me feature and grant location permission, the app accesses your device’s precise location so it can search for restaurants near you. The coordinates are sent to our server-side service hosted with Supabase so the service can request nearby restaurant results from Google Places.
Better Guess Studio does not intentionally save your precise coordinates as part of a user profile, Favorites list, or restaurant history. Precise coordinates are not included in manual bug-report diagnostics. Service providers involved in processing a search may process request and network information according to their own privacy policies.
Choose City
If you choose a city instead of using Near Me, the city is converted to a search location and used to request restaurant results for that area.
3. Information stored on your device
The app stores preferences locally on your device so they can persist between launches. Depending on the features you use, this may include:
- appearance and humor/attitude settings;
- selected distance, one or more cuisines, and your chosen search city;
- pick style and major-chain preference;
- Favorites;
- Never Suggest restaurant identifiers;
- recent accepted restaurant identifiers used by Somewhere New;
- current decision state and saved Dinner Democracy sessions, where used;
- whether the first-launch tour has been completed; and
- a randomly generated installation identifier used for operational security and abuse prevention.
The installation identifier is generated by the app and is not based on your name, email address, phone number, Apple Account, or Google account. It is stored separately from ordinary preferences. The app excludes its installation-identity storage from Android backup and device transfer and from iOS/iPadOS backup. Ordinary preferences may be included in device backups or transfers, depending on your device and settings. You can manage available preferences using the app’s controls. Deleting the app removes its local data from that installation; preferences may be restored later from a device backup. On iPhone and iPad, offloading an app can preserve its data.
4. Restaurant searches and third-party services
Restaurant search requests are processed through Better Guess Studio’s server-side services and Google Places. Restaurant names, addresses, location information, and Google Maps links may be returned to the app. Opening directions may launch Google Maps or another external mapping application.
5. Bug reports and diagnostics
The app can send automatic diagnostic reports when certain unexpected errors occur. You can also choose to submit a manual bug report from Settings.
Automatic reports use a sanitized exception classification together with bounded crash and diagnostic information useful for identifying and correcting a problem. They do not include restaurant names, human-readable location labels, coordinates, Google Place IDs, addresses, Google Maps links, restaurant result or provider contents, or arbitrary exception-message text.
If you submit a manual bug report, it may include the description you choose to type and bounded technical diagnostics. User-provided report content is optional and is used for analytics and troubleshooting. Manual reports are subject to the same exclusions listed above.
For service protection, our backend may also process network information such as an IP address and the app’s random installation identifier. These identifiers are hashed server-side for rate limiting, abuse prevention, and bug-report security records.
6. Advertising and consent
It’s Up to You uses Google AdMob / the Google Mobile Ads SDK to display advertising. Google’s Mobile Ads SDK may automatically collect and share information such as approximate location derived from network information, app and ad interactions, diagnostic information, and device or other identifiers for advertising or marketing, analytics, and fraud prevention, security, and compliance. This SDK-related processing may include sharing diagnostics, app interactions, device or other identifiers, and approximate location with Google or other service providers as applicable.
Where required, the app uses Google’s User Messaging Platform (UMP) and Google-certified consent messaging to ask for and respect advertising privacy choices. Available choices can depend on your location and applicable law.
Better Guess Studio does not directly sell your personal information for money. Advertising providers may process or share certain information for advertising purposes as permitted by your privacy choices and applicable law.
7. Security and abuse prevention
We use server-side validation, access controls, rate limits, usage limits, and other safeguards to protect the service and reduce abuse. Security and rate-limit records may be retained for operational, fraud-prevention, and abuse-prevention purposes.
8. Data retention
Local preferences remain on your device until you change or remove them, clear app data, or delete the app, subject to the backup and offloading behavior described above. Server-side bug reports and security records are retained for as long as reasonably necessary to diagnose problems, maintain the service, prevent abuse, and satisfy applicable legal obligations.
9. Your choices
- Location: You can deny or revoke location permission in your device’s settings. On iPhone or iPad, use Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → It’s Up to You. On Android, use the app’s location permission settings. You may use Choose City instead of Near Me. The app requests foreground location access and does not require Always location access.
- Favorites and exclusions: The app provides controls to manage Favorites, Never Suggest, and recent picks.
- Advertising privacy: Where applicable, you can make choices through the consent/privacy options presented in the app and reopen applicable privacy choices from Settings.
- Contact: You can contact us with privacy questions using the email address below. The app does not currently provide a formal user-data deletion request mechanism.
10. Children
It’s Up to You is not designed or directed specifically to children. The app may include optional humor settings intended for older audiences, including a setting that can contain strong language.
11. Service providers
The app currently relies on service providers that may process information on our behalf or as independent providers, including:
- Google — Google Places, Google Maps, Google Mobile Ads / AdMob, and consent/privacy messaging. Google Privacy Policy
- Supabase — backend functions, database services, security controls, and bug-report storage. Supabase Privacy Policy
- Resend — internal service alerts and limited report-notification metadata delivered to our team. Full report content is not included in the report-notification email. Resend Privacy Policy
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the app changes, including when new features, service providers, or data practices are introduced. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated when the policy changes materially.
